Let Me Relate One Of My Major Episodes:
My girlfriends and I were going to dinner and theater. It was going to be a real scream. The play was called “Menopause The Musical”. While waiting in the foyer the crowds began to thicken. Then an announcement was made, that once everyone was inside the theater the doors would be closed and would not open until the end of the play, no intermission. Women scurrying for their seats. It felt like everything started closing in around me. I had to get OUT! Off to the bathroom I went for some kind of safety.
At that moment something very strange happened to me, it was something I had never experienced before! My body began to shake and I started hyperventilating, got the cold sweats, I almost screamed because I felt trapped!
Next thing I know I’m pushing to get out of the theater! Outside by myself I was still shaking so bad, I thought I might die. My heart beating uncontrollably and my breathing, well, it felt as if I couldn’t get a decent breath. At that moment I remember feeling; “you are so foolish acting this way, what must people be thinking about you." I was completely paranoid but I knew I couldn’t go back in there.
It was only seconds before one of my friends came running to find me. She found me in the condition I describe and was confused as to what happened to me. She knew something frightened me, and kept talking consolingly. She also had to remind me to breath!
Which when I look back now seems funny, but, it sure wasn’t then, while I was FEELING everything that was happening at that time !!! After a while I began to calm down. I still feared the thought that once the doors were closed I wouldn’t be able to get out. I explained all of this to my friends and they were supportive. Fortunately our seats were in the very last row I was able to sit on an aisle seat with no one behind me, so that in the event I needed to I could stand up and move around without disturbing anyone.

This Event Happened a Number of Years Ago.
Since then I have had many more panic attacks. I had to quit my job because of all the anxiety I felt there every day. Then I pretty much became house bound. Not what I wanted for my life. So I went to a psychiatrist and I was put on different medications over the years. They would only work for so long and even then I still had underlying anxiety I had to deal with.

I Stumbled Onto the Panic Away website and it saved me!
What caught my attention was the fact that the very person writing the program had suffered from panic attacks himself. Throughout the years he (like many of us) went through one form of therapy after another, reading all the books on the subject he could get his hands on, nothing seemed to work or only worked for a short time, which only left him more frustrated.

He presents a quote from The University College of London which published it’s findings in 2007. A study was done to demonstrated what people experienced in the brain when they are having a panic attack.
They were able to show that activity in the brain moved from the front of the brain to the middle of the brain. During the procedure it also showed higher blood flow to the midbrain section indicating extreme activity.
It was explained that the front of the brain is where decisions are made and rationality comes from. The midbrain is where the "fight or flight” mechanism comes from when we perceive danger or threat or are experiencing a panic attack.
This grabbed my attention! An explanation of what was going on in my head while undergoing a panic attack.
